Welcome to Lights On Learning Academy (LOLA)

Mission Statement:  Engaging Educators & Illuminating Students
Lights On Learning Academy is a Non-Public Agency (NPA) directed by Speech Language Pathologist Kellie Henkel.

Services:  
Kellie provides Speech & Language Services to Public and Non-Public Schools in the North Bay Area of California. The Speech & Language Services include:  Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, Social Groups, Play Groups, Evaluations, Report Writing, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development, Teacher & Assistant Consultation and Training.  

Population:  
Kellie serves students of all ages including students in Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High Schools.  She serves children with a variety of communication, speech, language and learning impairments, including but not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Articulation Delay, Apraxia, Sensory Integration Disorder, Auditory Processing Disorder, Language Delay, and Learning Disabilities.  

Location:  
All services are provided at Public and Non-Public Schools in the North Bay Area of California.  Kellie has served a variety of schools in Napa, Solano and Sonoma Counties.  Kellie provides speech language services during the school year and over the summer through the extended school year, as indicated on students Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).  

Availability:  
Kellie provides contract services to a variety of school districts. These contracts change year to year, as the needs of each district change.  If you are interested in contract Speech/Language Services, please contact Kellie to see if she is available to offer short or long terms services.  

Techniques:  
Kellie uses a variety of techniques she has learned over the years.  The techniques used include:  Verbal Behavior (a type of Applied Behavior Analysis/ ABA, taught by Vincent Carbone), Prompts for Restructuring Phonetic Targets (PROMPT), SCERTS Model taught by Barry Prizant, Dubard Method, Social Thinking taught by Michelle Garcia Winner & Integrated Play Groups taught by Pamela Wolfberg.  She uses Signed Exact English (SEE) with students who are non-verbal. She also has experience using Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and other Alternative/ Augmentative Communication (AAC) Devices such as the Dynovox.  

Background:  
Kellie graduated with a Masters in Speech Language Pathology from Vanderbilt University in 1999.  She earned her Bachelors in Science from Loyola College in 1997.  Kellie grew up in Baltimore Maryland. She practiced in Seattle Washington for 6 years working primarily with children with Autism.  She moved to California in 2006 where she met her husband and started a family. She is now happily married and a proud mom of 2 boys named River Hemingway and Rain Hawthorne.  The Henkel family lives in Calistoga, California and enjoy painting, bike riding, dancing and playing with their two standard poodles, Nelly & Maisy.
